Turning Point : A New Writing Initative for Artists with a Disability (includes Audio Information)

Fishamble: The New Play Company and Arts & Disability Ireland in association with VSA arts (Washington D.C.) present Turning Point

Submission Deadline

Date: Friday 29th January 2010

Time: 5pm

Submissions should be emailed to Gavin Kostick at gavin@fishamble.com

Fishamble and Arts & Disability Ireland are seeking artists with a disability to write new short theatre pieces for a new writing initiative entitled Turning Point.

A selection of short pieces of writing for the stage will be presented to the public at a Dublin city centre venue in April, and a number of these will then be presented at the 2010 International VSA arts Festival in Washington D.C. between 6-12 June 2010.

This is an opportunity for artists with disabilities to develop a short play for presentation on the theme of change. It may be a moment when everything changed, a moment when you realised there was no going back, a moment when you knew something about yourself deep in your heart, a moment when the future opened up.

Fishamble and Arts & Disability Ireland will provide resources and dramaturgical guidance to a series of six short pieces, a number of which will be commissioned and some which will be selected to develop on submission.

An information and workshop session took place on the 10th December workshop for artists and individuals interested in submitting work for consideration. Audio documentation from this session is now available for download:

Audio 1: Jim Culleton, Director of Fishamble & Padraig Naughton, Director of Arts & Disability Ireland, introduce their respective organsations and the Turning Point project.
