CROI GLAN will perform once again at ABSOLUT Fringe 2010, Dublins premiere fringe festival held each year in September. This year's performance is part of a dance double bill of work in progress and 'This Is' is a 20 minute piece by five dancers. From 21st to 24th September Croi Glan and Legimate Bodies Dance Company will perform as part of the double bill, This Is and A Study in Absence/ A Study in Presence, in DanceHouse, Dublin each day at 3.30pm.
Following a very successful 2009, Ireland's leading integrated dance company CROI GLAN are excited to have the opportunity to work with renowned award winning Choreographer Adam Benjamin. Adam is co-founder of CanDoCo, one of the first professional dance companies for disabled and non-disabled dancers. CROI GLAN commissioned Adam to make a dance piece with the company and This Is is the result in progress. On stage a range of diverse bodies collaborate highlighting not only their uniqueness but their similarities. This work is artful and majestic, with a classical quality which is on the verge of being a finished piece.
CROI GLAN, founded by Tara Brandel and Rhona Coughlan, has wowed audiences since 2006 while receiving critical acclaim for its work. The company has earned a reputation for its commitment to integrated innovative dance both in its performance and education. It has broken down the barriers for disabled dancers in Ireland, working with esteemed choreographers from Ireland and abroad.
This year's ensemble of dancers have trained in a variety of cultures. With wide ranging influences from the wild athleticism of San Francisco, to the cool post-modernism of Austria and the highly technical London Contemporary, Tara Brandel, Dawn Mulloy, Mary Nuggent, James O'Shea and Tom Pritchard, combine to make up a diverse group.
About the performers:
Tara Brandel, current artistic director of CROI GLAN, is a choreographer and dancer with a strong international background. Mary Nugent who has danced with CROI GLAN since 2007, is just finishing a law degree and DJ's regularly in Cork. Dawn Mulloy, who trained at SEED, has been dancing with CROI GLAN since 2009.
This season CROI GLAN is delighted to welcome James O'Shea and Tom Pritchard to the company. James O'Shea was winner of the first BBC 3's 'Dancing on Wheels' in 2010. Having previously worked with CanDoCo with whom he toured two award-winning pieces internationally (Fin Walkers 'The Journey' and Athena Vahla's 'In praise of Folly'), James took a break from dancing. He studied tai chi and chi gong and worked with people with disabilities. His return dance he 'was in Brain Game' for the Anna Rothslisburger Company in Switzerland.
Tom Pritchard trained at LABAN in London and then spent a year with Scottish Dance Theatre . Tom has established himself as a freelance performer, teacher and choreographer in Glasgow. His experience covers a wide range of disciplines and has included much work in disability arts, both in performance and education contexts.
CROI GLAN acknowledges the funding support of the Irish Arts Council for this project.
