Hosted at Filmbase on the first Thursday of every month, ShortSpace is the place for filmmakers and film fans to get together, screen and discuss short films and short filmmaking.

Each month Filmbase will select a variety of short films based around a specific theme or topic. These films will be screened and then the filmmakers behind the films will be asked to talk about their experience in making the film.

The first ShortSpace will kick off on Thursday the 2nd of September. As it's the first one, the folks at Filmbase have decided to focus on making your first short film. They've selected a number of fantastic shorts to screen and will be joined on the night by the films' directors to discuss their experiences making these films.

Based on true events, An Cosc explores the bizarre and humorous story of two childhood friends from opposite sides of town who share a voracious passion for hurling and mutual raillery. When local pride and sporting politics interfere, it sparks a bitter fall-out that divides a community, and has unforeseen consequences for the first President of the country.

Filmmakers in attendance will include Vincent Gallagher, Juanita Wilson and Hugh O'Conor. ShortSpace is a ticketed screening. Tickets will be available to purchase from Filmbase reception from Monday 23rd of August. Admission costs €5 for Filmbase members and €8 for non-members.

 

Interested in submitting your film for consideration?

In order to open up ShortSpace to the widest range of Irish short films, Filmbase is calling on filmmakers to submit their short films for consideration. Films will be accepted on an rolling basis however, they must be submitted with a completed application form (email clarefilmbase.ie for an application form and guidelines). There's no submission fee however, you must read the submission guidelines and fill out an application form before submitting your film and please note that submitting your film does not guarantee inclusion in the programme.

Short Space is open to all forms of short film including drama, animation, experimental works, music videos, documentary and everything in between.

Ideally shorts should be ten minutes or under films. Films over 30 minutes will not be accepted.

So whether you're a fledgling filmmaker wondering how to get your first film off the ground or you're a seasoned professional who's interested in passing on your expertise then come along to ShortSpace at Filmbase. ShortSpace at Filmbase will take place in the Basement Space on the first Thursday of every month. We may hold special editions of ShortSpace in a different venue on occasion so make sure to check in with Filmbase before the date.
